One of the distinct pleasures of walking around Beijing’s hutongs is the colorful doors and the unusual door knobs. Here is a collection of the door knobs that I have seen around Beijing. (16 photos total)

Awesome pics… it’s sad that after being here so long I’ve ceased noticing the beauty in the mundane, but specifically Chinese things in Beijing.

I’ve stopped asking myself questions such as:

1) Where do you go to buy things like that? Is there a shop that sells those, or do you have them made?

2) Just how old is that? It could be 5 or 50 years old. I can’t tell.

3) Is that thing supposed to scare me away, or convince me to knock on that stranger’s door?

Thanks for posting these lovely doors. I captured similar images from Florence, Italy; this sort of everyday object has great appeal. I’m looking forward to your next posts.
